Aruba Airport Growth Puts Pressure on Airport Infrastructure

ORANJESTAD – The strong growth in passenger numbers at Aruba Airport Authority led to increasing pressure on airport infrastructure and a temporary decline in passenger satisfaction in 2025. This is according to the annual report of the airport operator.

In 2025, more than 3.4 million passengers traveled through Aruba’s airport. At the same time, the airport faced major renovation works, capacity issues, and operational strain due to growing passenger flows.

Dissatisfaction

Aruba Airport Authority acknowledges that passenger satisfaction came under pressure in the first half of the year. According to the report, renovations and congestion at the airport in particular had an impact on the passenger experience. Customer satisfaction initially declined before improving again later in the year.

The airport cites the opening of Gateway 2030 Phase 1A as a key measure to better handle passenger flows. As part of this, a new check-in hall and a modern baggage system were put into operation, primarily aimed at travelers to the United States.

According to AAA, further expansion remains necessary to accommodate future growth. To that end, the airport is already working on the next phases of the Gateway 2030 project, which is designed to provide additional capacity and modernize the terminal.

The pressure on Aruba Airport comes at a time when Aruba continues to grow as a tourist destination and airlines are expanding their connections to the island.
