On Saba, Sint Eustatius and Sint Maarten, Freedom Meals will be held on 5 May, centred around meeting people and conversations about freedom. Residents and organisations are hosting gatherings at various locations to mark Liberation Day.

Saba: meals spread across the island
On Saba, six Freedom Meals will be held at locations spread across the island. From schools to the elderly home and a public shared meal: young and old come together to eat and engage in conversation.

In addition to the meals, films about World War II in the Caribbean will be shown. Trilingual dialogue cards help participants discuss freedom and togetherness with one another.

Sint Eustatius: gathering in the garden
On Sint Eustatius, the Chamber of Commerce is organising a public Freedom Meal in its garden. Visitors are welcome from 12:00 noon to join a light lunch with Freedom Soup. Meeting one another and sharing experiences are central to the event.

Sint Maarten: conversation about justice and democracy
On Sint Maarten, the Court of Justice is organising a Freedom Meal for its staff. In this setting, where people work on justice and freedom every day, participants will discuss themes such as democracy, peace and human rights.

The Freedom Meals are part of the national celebration of Liberation Day and are organised by the National Committee for 4 and 5 May in collaboration with Vfonds.
