
THE HAGUE - Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten is traveling to the Caribbean part of the Kingdom from May 8 to May 14, including visits to Saba and Sint Eustatius. It is Jetten’s first official visit to the region as prime minister.
The visit comes early in the new cabinet’s term and is intended to underline the importance the Dutch government places on cooperation within the Kingdom. During the trip, Jetten will meet with local governments, community organizations, entrepreneurs and residents across all six Caribbean islands.
Saba
After starting the visit on Sint Maarten, the prime minister travels to Saba on Sunday, May 10. There, he is scheduled to visit the Saba Cares Nursing Home, where he will speak with elderly residents about healthcare and daily life on the island.
Jetten will also tour the St. Johns Enrichment Center, where a new multifunctional community center is being developed alongside existing school facilities.
St. Eustatius
On Monday, May 11, the prime minister continues to Sint Eustatius. His program includes a visit to the island’s oil transshipment terminal.
Jetten will also take part in a historical walking tour focused on the island’s slavery past and cultural heritage. The tour will include attention to Statiaday 2026, marking 250 years of ties between St. Eustatius and the United States.
The island is known for “The First Salute,” when St. Eustatius became the first foreign entity to formally acknowledge the independence of the United States during the American Revolutionary War.
Other islands
The visit continues on May 12 in Bonaire, where discussions will focus on sustainability, education and housing.
The tour then moves to Aruba and Curaçao, where issues including nature conservation, economic development and regional security will be discussed.
On Sint Maarten, the focus of the visit will be on reconstruction efforts, governance and disaster preparedness.
