KRALENDIJK – More than 40 participants received their certificate on Thursday evening after successfully completing the free orientation course ‘Discover Your Democratic Voice!’ The course was organised by the Island Council of Bonaire, in collaboration with ProDemos.

The course took place from 18 to 21 May and was designed for residents who wanted to learn more about democracy, governance and decision-making on Bonaire. The sessions attracted a diverse group of motivated participants who are eager to actively contribute to the development of the island. Over the course of four evenings, participants gained knowledge about the functioning of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Public Entity Bonaire and the role of the Island Council. Topics such as influencing decision-making, basic knowledge of public finances and civic participation were covered extensively.

The final evening focused on hands-on experience. Participants received a guided tour of the Passangrahan and held discussions with various members of the Island Council. In an interactive way, they gained a concrete understanding of how the political decision-making process works in practice on Bonaire. According to Island Council Registrar Ms Jacqueline Harewood, the strong turnout shows that residents want to be involved in the future of Bonaire. "It is wonderful to see how much interest there is from the community to learn more about democracy and the role of the Island Council. With this course, we hope to further encourage residents to actively think along and participate in our community," said the Island Council Registrar.
