ORANJESTAD, St. Eustatius – The Fire Brigade Caribbean Netherlands (BKCN) successfully organized a Firefighters Week on St. Eustatius. With an extensive program of educational and community activities, the week was entirely dedicated to fire safety and engagement with the community of St. Eustatius.

During the Firefighters Week, firefighters visited several primary schools and the secondary school. Students received interactive presentations on fire safety, prevention, and the work of the fire brigade. By engaging directly with young people, the BKCN aims to further increase safety awareness within the community.

Firefighters paid a visit to a nursing home, where they donated food, played games, and had conversations with the residents. In addition, they worked throughout the week to create a safer living environment by clearing trees and vegetation.

A special moment during the week was the recognition of retired firefighters. They received a certificate of appreciation as a token of gratitude for their years of dedication and contribution to the safety of St. Eustatius. With this ceremony, the corps expressed its respect and gratitude for their commitment and service.

Connection

The Firefighters Week tied in with the international ‘International Firefighters Day’ on May 4th, but was above all about connection with society and community involvement.
