KRALENDIJK – STINAPA will celebrate its 40th anniversary on Sunday, May 31, 2026, with a free nature and culture event called DANKI. DANKI stands for: Day to Appreciate Nature, Culture and Language. The event runs from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the entrance of Washington Park. Cultural organizations FUHIKUBO and Akademia Papiamentu are organizing part of the morning program. Various nature organizations will be present with their own booths and materials. Tera Barra and STINAPA will be giving away free plants during DANKI.
"Naturally, we are very pleased and proud that STINAPA has been advocating for the preservation of Bonaire’s nature for 40 years. Nature and culture are one. That is why we are celebrating not only Bonaire’s beautiful nature, but also the island’s culture. In short, we are celebrating everything that makes Bonaire so special and beautiful, including music by Formashon Musikal Krioyo, FMK," director Melissa van Hoorn stated.
FUHIKUBO is hosting a small exhibition of historical and modern books in Papiamentu at the Washington Park museum. Akademia Papiamentu has a booth featuring materials from the organization, including the dictionary ‘Papiamentu pika.’ Visitors to DANKI can participate in ‘Reta Papiamentu,’ a game designed to test knowledge of Papiamentu in a fun way.
The program also includes a Spoken Word presentation featuring new and established talent. Young and talented musicians and singers from Formashon Musikal Krioyo, FMK, will perform. Tone & Texture, the new duo of guitarist Lucy and singer Shanty, will present a varied repertoire. Dance school SBAP will put on a show called ‘Colours of Bonaire.’ There will also be special activities for children.
More activities are planned for this year as part of the 40th anniversary celebrations. For example, a trail run in Washington Park on August 23. In the final quarter of the year, a symposium will be held featuring Bonairean experts and specialists from abroad.
