THE BOTTOM, Saba – The Black Rocks Harbor (BRH) project reached a new milestone this week with the arrival of the first barge carrying armour rock from St. Kitts.
According to the Public Entity Saba, the flat barge arrived Wednesday morning at the temporary load-out facility at the project site. The larger rocks will be used as part of the breakwater construction, serving as a protective armour layer.
While smaller rock from Saba is being used for the core of the breakwater, the larger armour rock had to be imported from St. Kitts because sufficient quantities are not available on the island. At a later stage, 35-ton concrete x-blocks from St. Eustatius will also be added as part of the outer protective layer.
The Public Entity described the cooperation between Saba, St. Kitts and St. Eustatius as an example of regional collaboration on major infrastructure projects.
Construction activities are expected to continue in the coming months, although work may temporarily pause during the hurricane season to protect workers and equipment.
