ORANJESTAD, St. Eustatius — Voters on St. Eustatius will elect seven Island Council members on March 17, 2027, as the island’s elected representative body expands from its current five seats.
The election will take place alongside a separate vote for the Electoral College, whose members help elect the Dutch Senate. The two ballots have different eligibility rules.
The expanded Island Council will serve from 2027 to 2031, overseeing local matters including the budget, housing, infrastructure and public services.
According to election information released by the island government, Island Council voters must be at least 18 on election day and registered as residents of St. Eustatius on February 1, 2027, the candidate nomination date. Non-Dutch nationals may also qualify, subject to a five-year lawful residency requirement.
Voting for the Electoral College is restricted to eligible Dutch nationals. Its elected members subsequently vote in the Senate election, giving island voters an indirect say in the composition of the Eerste Kamer.
Political organisations seeking to register a new party name must apply by December 21, 2026. Registration alone does not secure participation: parties must also submit a valid candidate list on February 1. Nomination forms and information will be available from January 11.
Polling stations will open from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on election day. Eligible voters are due to receive their voting cards at their home addresses at least fourteen days beforehand and may use them at any polling station on the island.
