PORT OF SPAIN — Twenty public health professionals from eleven Caribbean countries and territories, including Aruba and Curaçao, attended a regional workshop in Trinidad and Tobago to improve the detection and monitoring of respiratory viruses.
Organised by the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the September 14–17 workshop focused on threats such as influenza, RSV and COVID-19.
Participants received training in disease surveillance, laboratory testing and faster reporting of cases. They also identified gaps in their national systems and developed preliminary actions to address them.
The initiative aims to help health authorities identify outbreaks earlier and coordinate their response across the region.
