KRALENDIJK – After months of declining support, the resignation of a fellow commissioner and growing criticism, the path has opened for the formation of a new governing coalition in Bonaire.
The two remaining commissioners, Clark Abraham and Peter Silberie, submitted their resignations on Tuesday evening to Lt. Governor John Soliano. The resignations were not entirely voluntary; a motion of no confidence had already been prepared but ultimately did not need to be put to a vote.
Following the departure of the commissioners, an urgent meeting has been scheduled for Thursday. During that meeting, a new majority is expected to nominate new commissioners.
New commissioners
According to information from political circles, these are likely to be so-called technocratic commissioners (vakgedeputeerden) who will serve until the elections in March 2027.
