ORANJESTAD — Tonight, Thursday June 4, Statia hosts its first-ever Heritage Walk, following the historic route of the Slager Revolt of June 12, 1848, from the English Quarter Plantation Arch to the center of Oranjestraat.
The walk is organized by Kurashi.Courage. The walk runs from 18:30 to 21:00 and ends with food and refreshments.
The Slager Revolt was a significant moment in the history of Statia, when enslaved people rose up in an act of resistance that contributed to the broader struggle for freedom in the Caribbean.
Organizers invite participants to "journey in the footsteps of history" and honor those who played a role in shaping the island’s freedom.
Practical information
A shuttle bus will be available to transport participants to the starting point at the English Quarter Plantation Arch. The event is free to attend.
