KRALENDIJK – The Directorate of Supervision and Enforcement (DTH) announced on Wednesday that it will soon begin conducting additional checks on illegally parked vehicles in the center of Kralendijk. With these controls, the DTH says it aims to contribute to a safe, accessible and orderly city center for residents, businesses and visitors.
“An illegally parked vehicle may receive a warning sticker. In the case of a serious or repeated violation, enforcement officers may also issue a fine or have the vehicle towed” the DTH warns.
According to the directorate, vehicles are regularly parked illegally, for example on the sidewalk, in front of someone else’s driveway, at an intersection, or in a disabled parking space. This leads to dangerous situations and inconvenience for pedestrians, traffic and emergency services.
Under the Bonaire Traffic Ordinance 2019, illegal parking is prohibited. The DTH will therefore conduct visible supervision and take action against all violations. These checks are in line with the directorate’s enforcement and supervision priorities, in which traffic and parking have been identified as a key area of focus.
The DTH calls on everyone to park their vehicles only in permitted locations and to be considerate of other road users.
Safe and accessible
"A safe and livable city center starts with all of us. By parking correctly, we help keep Kralendijk safe and accessible together" says Sherman Blanken, head of the Projects and Task Force department at the DTH. Blanken emphasizes that enforcement is not an end in itself, but a means to structurally improve the safety and liveability of the city center.
