ORANJESTAD – From Thursday, July 17 to Monday, July 28, 2025, the Dutch Caribbean Police Force (KPCN), in collaboration with the Public Entity of St. Eustatius, will implement temporary camera surveillance during the island’s carnival celebrations. The initiative aims to enhance public safety and ensure a swift response by emergency services if incidents occur.

Cameras will be installed at strategic locations and clearly marked with signage. The recorded footage will be securely stored and automatically deleted after a maximum of four weeks—unless it is required for a criminal investigation, in which case the data may be retained longer under the Police Data Act (Wpg).

This approach mirrors similar safety measures taken in Bonaire during large public events, such as carnival and Dia di Rincon, where surveillance has contributed to a more secure environment.

Footage

Authorities emphasize that footage will only be accessed if necessary, and they encourage the community to cooperate to ensure a safe and enjoyable carnival for all.
