
ORANJESTAD, St. Eustatius- The agreement was signed during a working visit to the U.S. by a Statia delegation led by Island Commissioner Reuben Merkman, who is responsible for education. The delegation also includes Policy Advisor Edris Bennett and Education and Study Abroad Consultant Calvin Mardembrough.
Under the agreement, students from Statia admitted to the university will qualify for an annual institutional scholarship of US$8,000, with the possibility of additional supplementary funding.
According to the Statia Government, the partnership forms part of broader efforts to create more accessible and affordable pathways to tertiary education following the approval of the island’s Study Allowance Ordinance in 2025.
Other meetings
During the U.S. visit, the delegation is also meeting with several other universities to explore future cooperation, scholarship opportunities and study programmes for students from Statia.
