THE BOTTOM, Saba – Saba Heritage Center director Sharifa Balfour took part in a four-day strategic planning workshop in Curaçao aimed at strengthening heritage and cultural organisations in the Dutch Caribbean.
The workshop, held from August 31 to September 3, brought together representatives from Saba, Curaçao and St. Maarten. Topics included organisational structure and governance, staffing and capacity, funding, internal systems and strategic priorities.
Particular attention was given to making organisations less dependent on individual staff members by developing stronger structures, policies and systems for long-term sustainability.
Balfour said the workshop also provided an opportunity to exchange experiences with colleagues from the other islands and to consider how lessons from the programme could be applied to further strengthen the Saba Heritage Center.
