KRALENDIJK – The Bonaire Labour Market Forum convened on Wednesdaymorning to mark the start of the implementation of the 2026–2027 Implementation Agenda. During a breakfast meeting at Chez Nous, the restaurant of Scholengemeenschap Bonaire, representatives of government, education institutions and labour market organisations discussed the next steps in their cooperation.

Within the Labour Market Forum, the participating organisations work together to improve the alignment between education and the labour market. The implementation agenda builds on previous cooperation and sets out concrete actions and responsibilities for the coming two years.

Island Commissioner Peter Silberie stressed the importance of close cooperation to better connect education with employment. According to Gerold van Elshuis, Director of the Directorate of Society and Care, the agenda serves as a practical guideline that clearly defines responsibilities.

The participating organisations are focusing on improving internships, strengthening guidance for students and young people in the workplace, and making better use of data to gain insight into labour market developments. Promoting lifelong learning is also a key objective.

Work and education

Special attention is given to the BBL pathway, which combines work with vocational education. This is seen as an important tool to help more residents obtain an MBO diploma and improve their position in the labour market.

Several follow-up meetings are planned in 2026 to monitor progress and make adjustments where necessary.
