AMSTERDAM – The second round of Studio Caribe is now also open to filmmakers from Suriname this year. The Dutch Film Fund announced this yesterday.

Starting March 1st, creators from Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, Sint Eustatius, Sint Maarten, and Suriname can submit applications for film projects, thanks to additional funding from international cultural policy.

Through Studio Caribe, the fund aims to support filmmakers from the Caribbean part of the Kingdom in developing original short films, thereby strengthening the regional film offering.

By adding Suriname to the existing program, the Film Fund seeks to contribute to sustainable and equitable cultural cooperation between the Netherlands, the Caribbean islands, and Suriname.

Fourteen Projects

A total of fourteen projects will be selected for the development phase. The creators will receive not only financial support but also guidance through coaching, training, and workshops. From these projects, seven film proposals will later be chosen for production funding: six from the islands and one from Suriname.

The program is intended for screenwriters, directors, and producers with an original idea for a short film, including fiction, documentary, experimental film, or animation.

Applications can be submitted with or without a producer. The deadline for project submissions is May 5th. Additionally, special consultation hours will be organized for interested creators during the Curaçao International Film Festival in April.
