KRALENDIJK – The Bonaire Sunfish Sailing Association (BSSA), also known as the Bonaire Sailing Club, officially commissioned a new fleet of eleven Sunfishes on Sunday. The boats were christened during a ceremony at Kas di Regatta.
Ramon Martis, nicknamed Yellowman and Bonaire’s most well-known Sunfish world sailor, presided over the christening ceremony. Sailing enthusiasts of all ages were present to celebrate the milestone.
A Growing Club
The fleet expansion comes at a time when the club is growing and welcoming new members. Advanced sailors now have access to higher-quality boats for training and racing, while beginner and newly certified sailors gain more opportunities to build experience.
Juniors in the Spotlight
Interest in Sunfish sailing is growing rapidly, particularly among juniors. The club expects the new fleet to attract a new generation of young Bonairean sailors to club races and international regattas, including the Regatta, which takes place on Bonaire in October.
