Bonaire must brace for higher fuel prices from June 5

KRALENDIJK – Bonaire must brace for higher fuel prices starting June 5. The new tariffs will be announced on June 3.

The expected increase is linked to developments on the international oil market. Global tensions and rising oil prices are causing the purchase price of fuel on Bonaire to rise as well. This is expected to be reflected at the petrol pump.

Fuel prices on Bonaire are recalculated every month. This takes into account the international purchase price, transport costs from Curaçao to Bonaire, storage, distribution, excise duties and ABB (general expenditure tax). Changes in these costs have a direct impact on the final price.

In particular, the prices of gasoline and diesel are currently under pressure. Higher fuel prices may have consequences for households, businesses, transport companies and other organizations that depend on transportation.

Commissioner Mohamedjoenoes says to be aware that the price increase may affect residents and businesses. “We have taken note of the expected price increase and are in contact with the responsible ministry in the Netherlands to work together on possible mitigating measures. Although international developments determine a large part of fuel prices, we want to explore what options are available to limit the negative effects. At the same time, we find it important to inform our community in a timely and transparent manner about how these prices are determined and when changes take effect.”
