BRADES- Montserrat’s healthcare system received a boost with the arrival of two fully equipped ambulances from the United Kingdom. In a handover ceremony at the Public Works Department, Governor Harriet Cross presented the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vehicles to Minister of Health, Dr Ingrid Buffonge.

The ambulances, donated by the West Midlands Ambulance Service, feature wheelchair access, hydraulic stretchers, patient monitoring systems, and internal CCTV. They were secured through the joint efforts of the Governor’s Office, the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), the Public Works Department, and the Montserrat Fire and Rescue Service.

Ongoing commitment

Governor Cross emphasized the UK’s ongoing commitment to healthcare on the island, while Buffonge and Chief Fire Officer Vachel Murraine expressed gratitude for the support. Additional training for emergency personnel, as part of the partnership with WMAS, is planned later this year. The new ambulances represent a key step toward improving pre-hospital care and emergency response in Montserrat.
