Your application for a return visa can be denied if your residence application is not approved. So only buy a ticket when you are certain that your return visa has been approved.

Do you hold a nationality that does not require a visa? Then you do not need to apply for a return visa. You can travel with your residence annotation (sticker). Do pay attention to its validity.
