ORANJESTAD, St. Eustatius – Motorists using the Road to English Quarter will notice construction activity this week as crews have begun carrying out repairs to improve the current driving conditions.

According to information confirmed on site, the work started on Wednesday and is being executed by a local contractor on behalf of the island’s Public Works department. The repairs are not a full reconstruction, but an interim measure intended to make the road safer and more passable. Crews are grading damaged sections and applying asphalt in areas where the surface has deteriorated significantly.

The road has been the subject of ongoing complaints from residents and drivers due to potholes, uneven surfaces and drainage issues, particularly after periods of heavy rainfall.

Adress concerns

Commissioner Reuben Merkman, who has public works in his portfolio, visited the location to review the progress. He indicated that the current effort is meant to address immediate concerns while broader plans are being prepared.
