Den Haag informs Caribbean islands more intensively about escalating tensions in the region

DEN HAAG – The Netherlands has stepped up contact with the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom due to escalating tensions in the region. Island governments have been more intensively informed about the security situation in recent months.
This is stated by Minister of Foreign Affairs Berendsen in a letter to the Senate. According to the cabinet, contact has been intensified since the summer of last year, partly due to geopolitical developments in the region.
Information is shared through various channels, including the special envoy for Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten, and the lieutenant governors of Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba. Defence also plays a role, maintaining contact with local administrators through the Commander of the Naval Forces in the Caribbean.
The cabinet emphasizes that it is important for the islands to be informed in a timely and careful manner about developments affecting their security. Sensitivity of certain information is taken into account in this regard.
Although no concrete threat is mentioned, the cabinet speaks of developments that are causing concern and require extra attention for security in the region.
