Bryan Coffie appointed as substitute judge at Joint Court of Justice

ORANJESTAD – Bryan Coffie has been appointed as substitute judge at the Joint Court of Justice. The Dutch Council of Ministers has approved the nomination on the proposal of the State Secretary for Justice and Security. The appointment takes effect on the date the Royal Decree is signed.

Coffie will be designated as examining magistrate in criminal cases, with Aruba as his duty station. In this capacity, he will supervise criminal investigations and make decisions during the investigation phase of criminal cases.

Coffie has been active as a lawyer since 2007. Prior to that, he worked as a civil servant for the government of Aruba. He also served as a commissioner with the Bar Association of Aruba.

With his appointment, he joins the judicial body that administers justice for Aruba, Curaçao, Sint-Maarten and the Caribbean public entities Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba.

The Joint Court of Justice handles civil cases, criminal cases and administrative law cases, including tax cases, both at first instance and on appeal.

The Court consists of judges in local service and seconded judges and is also involved in special judicial bodies and disciplinary proceedings.
