ORANJESTAD / THE BOTTOM – ING Bank is exploring the possibility of establishing a banking presence on Saba and St. Eustatius later this year. This follows recent remarks by representatives of ING Group, who are visiting both islands this week. Discussions about a potential entry into the local market have been ongoing for nearly a year.

According to ING, the exploratory talks focus on the potential provision of basic banking services for residents and local businesses. These may include everyday payment services, savings products and forms of personal and business financing. A possible presence of the bank could improve access to modern banking services on the islands.

Exploratory phase

ING stresses that the process is still in an exploratory phase and that no final decisions have been made. Current discussions are aimed at assessing feasibility and defining what role the bank could realistically play within Caribbean Netherlands.
