KRALENDIJK—?The leadership of Scholengemeenschap Bonaire (SGB), represented by managing board chairman Dennis Volmer, has stated that they do not recognize the recent criticism from a parent in local media regarding alleged inaction in response to reports of serious misconduct by a group of students at Liseo Boneriano.?

The concerned parent claims in an extensive and rather accusatory letter that a student was seriously threatened during school hours on the Liseo grounds by a group of eleven fellow students, to which the school leadership allegedly responded inadequately. This, according to the parent, was not the only such incident and happened before. “In my view, you are complicit in all those crimes and offenses at school. I do not accept this and will report it to the authorities, as not only I but several parents and the parent council have been indicating for five years that the safety of our children is at risk,” wrote the upset parent.?

In response, Volmer emphasized that the safety of students and staff is paramount. He stated that strict measures are in place, including permanent supervision by playground monitors and a strict door policy to keep unauthorized individuals out. “The mentioned incident was taken seriously; concierges intervened quickly, the involved students were separated, and the police were immediately contacted,” Volmer said regarding the incident.?

Appropriate Measures

Additionally, according to the chairman of the Managing Board, discussions were held with the involved students, and ‘appropriate measures’ were taken. The school leadership invites concerned parents for a conversation to prevent what they describe as ‘incorrect information’ and to jointly ensure safety at school.?
