ORANJESTAD – The Directorate of Social Domain, in collaboration with JOGG (Young People at a Healthy Weight), has successfully concluded Healthy Youth Week 2026, held from 8 to 12 June.
The initiative encouraged children and young people to adopt healthier lifestyles through a programme of sports activities and healthy eating activities across schools, day-care centres, and sports facilities on the island.
Participants took part in a range of activities, including Zumba, fitness dance sessions, volleyball, bocce, softball, and baseball. Younger children in day-care centres joined Miffy Moves sessions, while schools were provided with fresh fruit to prepare healthy snacks, such as fruit kebabs.
According to coordinator Amarikinia Lopes-Robins, the week combined enjoyment with awareness about healthy living. “It was wonderful to see the energy of our youth. They participated actively in all sports and showed real enthusiasm for healthy choices” she said.
The Directorate of Social Domain and JOGG expressed thanks to all partners, including MDT Statia participants, schools, sports facilities, instructors, and volunteers, for their contribution to the programme’s success.
Healthy Youth Week aimed to promote habits that support both the physical and mental well-being of young people through a combination of movement and nutrition education.
