THE BOTTOM, Saba – The Caribbean Netherlands Police Force (KPCN) carried out several enforcement and public safety actions during Saturday’s Saba Carnival festivities, which included both the J’Ouvert Morning Parade and the Grand Carnival Parade.
Before both parades, all participating drivers underwent breathalyzer tests and all passed. Police reported that the events proceeded largely without incident.
During the morning parade, officers intervened in several minor altercations and arrested a 24-year-old man on J.Z. Ridge Road for public drunkenness.
In the afternoon, police warned vendors and spectators against the use of glass bottles along the parade route. Officers also confiscated a scooter after a minor rode onto the closed parade route, attempted to flee, and was found without a driver’s licence, insurance documents or a licence plate.
Police also ordered music to be shut down at two vending locations after the parade in accordance with carnival regulations.
KPCN thanked the public for its cooperation and said officers will remain present throughout the remainder of the Saba Carnival festivities to help ensure a safe and orderly event.
