ORANJESTAD, St. Eustatius- A phased renovation plan is set to begin at the St. Eustatius Sport Facility, focusing on urgent safety and operational improvements. Developed with the Project Planning and Management Office (PPMO), the first phase targets the Sport Hall, softball field, swimming pool, Cruyff Court, and outdoor gym.
At the Sport Hall, work will address leaks and corrosion on the roof and exterior walls, alongside replacement of the sports floor. The softball field will see electrical systems upgraded to resolve safety concerns, while the swimming pool will receive priority repairs to its pumps, supplemented by painting and lighting upgrades. Drainage improvements at the Cruyff Court aim to reduce water build-up, and the outdoor gym is also scheduled for necessary repairs.
Island Commissioner Rechelline Leerdam, who holds the sport portfolio, described the phased approach as a way to address critical issues while laying the groundwork for sustained maintenance.
Multi-year plan
The renovations form part of the Multi-Year Maintenance Plan for the Sint Eustatius Sport Facility Foundation, with further improvements planned for subsequent phases.
