THE HAGUE - More than sixty crisis professionals from all parts of the Kingdom gathered in The Hague in early June for the seventh Crisis Management Week. Over four days, they exchanged knowledge and experience and practised collaboration in the face of an imminent crisis.

The event took place from 1 to 4 June and was organised by the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations and the Ministry of Justice and Security. Representatives from crisis organisations across all six islands, Curaçao, Aruba, Sint Maarten, Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba, participated, alongside staff from various ministries and chain partners.

Hurricane and Cyber Threat

The week opened with the theme of local resilience as the foundation for robust cooperation. Tuesday, 2 June, centred on a joint crisis management exercise in which participants practised a Tropical Cyclone Briefing based on the fictional hurricane Lucas. The Urban Search and Rescue Team (USAR.NL) also provided a briefing on Hurricane Relief Capacity.

On Wednesday, all participants visited the National Tactical Command of the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee in The Hague, where they learned more about the role of the Marechaussee during crises in the Caribbean. The final day focused on cyber resilience.

Concrete Agreements

Participants look back on the week with satisfaction. They jointly contributed input for plans relating to strategic stockpiles and agreed to work towards a shared professional competency standard. The details of this will be developed in the period ahead.
