KRALENDIJK – Following the two-day sailing trip from Sint Maarten to Aruba, during which Bonairean windsurfer Taty Frans was also on board, Team JAJO’s ocean racer will soon be making a stop on Bonaire as well.

According to the organisation, the vessel will be moored in Bonaire’s harbour from March 18 through March 21. The visit is primarily centred around activities for staff and relations of main sponsor JAJO, an international construction company that is also active in the Caribbean.

No open days

Although no official open days are planned, those who walk past the Harbour Village marina will be able to view the boat. Public tours, however, are not a standard part of the programme.

The sailing yacht is a former ocean racer of the type that has competed multiple times in the gruelling round-the-world race, the Volvo Ocean Race. Although this type of boat is no longer used in the current edition of the race, it is still regarded as a fast and impressive offshore racer.

After its visit to Bonaire, the vessel will depart on March 21 heading back to Sint Maarten. From there, the crossing back to the Netherlands will begin later in March.

For sailing enthusiasts on Bonaire, this is a rare opportunity to see an ocean racer up close, the kind of boat once sailed across the world’s oceans in extreme conditions, known for its speed, lightweight construction, and life on board in short working and resting shifts.
