KRALENDIJK – On Saturday, May the 9th, the Islands can once again take part in the Global Big Day, an international birding event in which people around the world observe and record as many bird species as possible in a single day.
Bonaire, Saba and Statia are also well known as an attractive destination for bird enthusiasts, boasting a rich diversity of species, including resident birds and migratory birds. During the event, participants can spot a wide variety of species, such as flamingos, hummingbirds, and tropical songbirds.
Global Big Day is not only a recreational activity, but also contributes to scientific research. All observations are collected through the eBird platform and help researchers worldwide gain a better understanding of bird populations, distribution, and migration patterns.
Participation is straightforward and open to everyone. Whether you are an experienced birder or just starting out, even a short ten-minute observation provides valuable data.
Participants can submit their sightings through the eBird website or app: https://ebird.org
