KRALENDIJK – A hammerhead shark was observed yesterday off Bonaire’s west coast, a rare occurrence in this region. The shark was spotted at a depth of approximately 20 meters by a diver who was searching for seahorses.

Sharks are not frequently spotted on Bonaire’s west side. When they are seen, it’s usually smaller species such as reef sharks or nurse sharks. The hammerhead shark is a remarkable and rarely occurring sight in these waters.

The diver managed to capture a photo of the animal, despite the brief and unexpected encounter. The local diving community has responded enthusiastically to the news.
