KRALENDIJK – Representatives of Bonaire, Saba and St. Eustatius took part in talks on Curaçao on 1 and 2 October on the creation of a joint EU platform. Aruba, Curaçao, the Netherlands and Sint Maarten also took part in the meeting.

The platform is intended to strengthen cooperation with Brussels and help make better use of European funding opportunities. The six Caribbean islands hold the status of Overseas Countries and Territories (OCT) with the European Union.

Among other things, the participants discussed jointly tracking funding opportunities, sharing knowledge and contacts, and mapping training needs. Each island’s own relationship with the European Commission remains the starting point.

The meeting was organised by the Representation of the Netherlands in Willemstad. The Permanent Representation to the EU was also present. The seven partners will further develop the proposals in the coming period.
