ST. EUSTATIUS — Mega D Youth Foundation has won one of three Appeltjes van Oranje awards, which this year recognize initiatives helping to break the cycle of poverty.
The foundation supports Statia’s children and young people through meals, educational assistance and practical learning activities, including its Food with Heart Project.
“This is not for Mega D Youth Foundation, this is for Statia and all the children on the island,” said founder and director Dion Humphreys.
The Statia government congratulated the foundation. Education Commissioner Reuben Merkman highlighted its contribution to young people’s development beyond the classroom. Island Governor Alida Francis congratulated the Foundation and spoke of a wonderful achievement for St. Eustatius.
Representatives of the foundation attended the award ceremony today, October 8, at Noordeinde Palace in The Hague. The organizations chosen will each receive a bronze statuette and €25,000 to support their work.
