KRALENDIJK – During the 59th edition of Regatta Bonaire, which starts on Sunday, October 11, several agencies will carry out checks on the water. They will focus on safety and compliance with laws and regulations.
The Multidisciplinary Maritime Team Hub Bonaire will be active during the event. It brings together Dutch Caribbean Customs, the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee (KMar), the Coast Guard for the Caribbean Netherlands, the Caribbean Netherlands Police Force and the Public Entity of Bonaire. The checks will take place between Curaçao and Bonaire, around Bonaire and in the bay of Kralendijk.
Customs will mainly focus on the movement of goods, import and export procedures and prohibited items. The KMar will check whether people meet the entry requirements and will supervise the border.
The Coast Guard will check, among other things, vessel documents such as the registration certificate and the sailing permit. It will also verify that the number of people on board matches what is stated in the vessel’s documents. In addition, the Coast Guard will help maintain public order and safety.
Extra reinforcements will be available during the Regatta to assist in emergencies. The Coast Guard can be reached at 913 or via WhatsApp at 5100913.
