Governance, Economy and Heritage Central During Prime Minister Jetten’s Statia Visit

ORANJESTAD, St. Eustatius - Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten visited Sint Eustatius on Monday as part of his working tour through the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom, meeting with local officials to discuss governance, economic development and regional cooperation.

Jetten was welcomed at F.D. Roosevelt Airport by Island Governor Alida Francis. During the visit, the Prime Minister toured historical and economic sites on the island, including Fort Oranje, the Heritage Center and the GTI oil terminal.

In a message shared following the visit, Jetten described Statia as an island with a rich history and highlighted the importance of continued attention to the legacy of slavery and the island’s role in “The First Salute,” which marks 250 years this year.

The Prime Minister also emphasized the strategic importance of the GTI terminal for regional energy supply and met with the island governor, Executive Council and members of the Island Council to discuss strengthening local governance, economic opportunities, education, safety and healthcare.

Statia Day 2026

Preparations for this year’s Statia Day celebrations were also discussed during the visit.
