ORANJESTAD, St. Eustatius — Residents and officials gathered at the historic Fort Oranje on Monday for a Memorial Day ceremony honoring those who lost their lives in the name of peace and freedom.
The ceremony included reflections by Governor Alida Francis, a two-minute silence, prayers by local clergy and musical contributions by Sinfonia. Wreaths were also laid at the Monumental Plaque in remembrance of the fallen.
According to the Statia Government, the event was held under the theme “Remembering Their Courage, Embracing Our Freedom” and concluded with a collective rendition of “His Truth Is Marching On” and a closing prayer.
