THE BOTTOM - Major progress is underway in shaping the future of education on Saba with the development of a brand-new school campus in St. John’s. The ambitious project, a joint effort between the Ministries of OCW and VWS, the Regiodeal, and the Public Entity Saba, promises to deliver a modern, inspiring learning environment for the students of the Saba Comprehensive School.

The masterplan, recently presented to Prime Minister Dick Schoof during his visit to the island, includes key new facilities such as a gymnasium, a technical education center, and an enrichment center. Construction of the gym and technical center is expected to begin in the second half of 2025, with the enrichment center planned for 2026.

The design of the new campus has been shaped by direct input from students, who shared their experiences and ideas with architect Lyongo in 2023. Their feedback informed practical solutions to current issues, including improved ventilation, natural airflow through strategically placed windows, and upgraded air conditioning in classrooms.

Tender process

The tender process is now in its final stages. If cost agreements are reached, ground will be broken in the third quarter of this year. This investment represents a major step forward in ensuring that Saba’s students have access to a safe, modern, and engaging educational environment.
