ORANJESTAD – The Caribbean Coast Guard intercepted a boat carrying 24 undocumented Venezuelan men near Aruba during the night from Saturday to Sunday. They have been handed over to the Aruban police.
The Coast Guard detected the suspicious vessel by radar. The Coast Guard cutter Panter was then dispatched to investigate.
Upon arrival, the crew found 24 Venezuelan men on board who did not have the required residence documents.
The boat was then taken to the Coast Guard pier in Savaneta. There, the men were handed over to the Aruban police, who are conducting further investigation into the case.
The Coast Guard has not disclosed where exactly the boat was found, where it came from, or what its destination was. It is also unclear whether anyone has been arrested on suspicion of human smuggling.
