Statia Housing Foundation exchanges experiences with Dutch housing corporation

ORANJESTAD, St. Eustatius – A delegation from the Statia Housing Foundation has visited Dutch housing corporation NabijWonen to exchange experiences on social housing, affordability and community development.

The delegation consisted of Statia Housing Foundation director Jacquil Pandt, Monica Smith and Elizabeth Jones. During the visit, they met with NabijWonen staff in Zeist to discuss challenges facing housing corporations in both St. Eustatius and the European Netherlands.

Topics included the demand for social housing on Statia, financing new housing projects, construction capacity and balancing the different interests involved in public housing.

Although the two housing corporations operate in very different environments, the discussions showed that they face several similar challenges, particularly regarding affordable housing and maintaining strong communities.
