SIMPSON BAY, St. Maarten – Management of Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIA) and representatives of the St. Maarten Airline Handlers Association (SAHA) met to discuss operational challenges and preparations for the upcoming 2026/2027 high season, when passenger traffic is expected to increase, according to a press release from PJIA.

The discussions focused on several areas affecting airport operations, including airline schedules, gate allocation, self-service facilities, aircraft fueling, signage, curbside check-in, parking arrangements and Air Traffic Services.

Particular attention was given to improving coordination between airlines, ground handlers and airport departments to manage increased flight activity and reduce potential disruptions during peak travel periods.

“As we prepare for another busy high season, teamwork and coordination across all airport partners remain essential to ensuring smooth operations,” said PJIA CEO Michael Cleaver. “I also want to express my sincere appreciation to our staff for their continued dedication and support. Even under pressure, they consistently demonstrate the commitment and professionalism needed to keep our airport running efficiently.”

The meeting was attended by SAHA President Patrick Stevens, Vice President June Douglas and several senior PJIA officials, including Cleaver and COO Emile Levons. Representatives of Menzies Aviation also participated.

Both parties agreed on the importance of continued communication and cooperation to improve passenger flow and airport efficiency ahead of the busy travel season.
