ORANJESTAD, St. Eustatius – Police issued nine traffic fines during a little over an hour of traffic checks on St. Eustatius on Monday, October 12. With just 19 vehicles inspected, the number of violations was relatively high.
The checks took place between 9:00 and 10:10 a.m. on Dr. H.A. Korthalsweg and H.M. Queen Beatrixweg.
Six fines were issued for failing to wear a seatbelt, two for driving without valid insurance, and one for driving without a valid driver’s license.
The nine fines represent nearly one violation for every two vehicles checked, although police did not specify whether some drivers received multiple fines.
Police indicated that traffic checks will continue.
