KRALENDIJK – The first bus for Bonaire’s public transport system arrived on the island on Wednesday, 14 October. This brings the introduction of public transport on Bonaire another step closer. The Public Entity of Bonaire (OLB) has been preparing for the service for some time.
According to the current planning, the first bus will operate on a temporary route. Four more buses are expected in early 2027, which will allow the service to be expanded with a new route schedule. In preparing the service, the OLB is working with Autobusbedrijf Curaçao (ABC), the bus company of the neighbouring island.
Island Commissioner Dennis Martinus is delighted with the arrival of the first bus. According to him, the residents of Bonaire have been waiting for a public transport system for years. He sees the service as an important facility for the community, one that will be accessible to everyone.
It is not yet known when the service will officially start. An exact date has not yet been announced.
In the coming period, the OLB will publish more information about the routes, stops, departure times and the days on which the buses will run.
