KRALENDIJK - Flamingo Airport has installed new self-service kiosks and smart e-gates for collecting tourist tax. The modern equipment is designed to provide visitors with a faster and more pleasant experience upon arrival in Bonaire.
According to the Public Entity Bonaire, the new technology reduces the risk of fraud and human error. The airport team will remain available to assist passengers with questions or problems.
Quick Access with QR Code
Passengers who have already paid the international tourist tax of $75 online can scan their QR code at the smart e-gates. They will then receive immediate access to the island.
The self-service kiosks are available for visitors who have completed their declaration online but were unable to make payment. This applies, for example, to people without iDEAL or credit card access.
Exceptions Remain Manual
For visitors with an exception rate of $10 or an exemption, nothing changes. They will still be personally assisted by a collection officer and must present their supporting documents.
Deputy Weber officially inaugurated the equipment. "With this modernization, we are taking an important step toward innovative and efficient tax collection," says Weber. "We reduce human error and offer visitors a unique and pleasant experience upon arrival at Flamingo Airport and Bonaire."
