KRALENDIJK – The Dutch Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT) on Thursday grounded an aircraft belonging to the Surinamese airline FlyAllWays at Bonaire’s airport.

The ILT’s action followed a technical stop made by the aircraft, a Fokker 70, at Flamingo Airport to refuel. The flight was en route from Havana in Cuba, to Paramaribo in Suriname.

While sources at Bonaire International Airport (BIA) confirmed the incident to ABC Online Media, they were unable to provide further details. Passengers were allowed to disembark under the supervision of the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee.

The flight ban is reportedly related to an EU-imposed landing restriction on all aircraft registered in Suriname, due to concerns about the country’s oversight of aviation safety.

Replacement Aircraft

Sources consulted by ABC Online Media also reported that FlyAllWays will now have to arrange alternative transport for the stranded passengers. This must be done with an aircraft not registered in Suriname.
