KRALENDIJK- On 9 October 2026, nine firefighters of the Caribbean Netherlands Fire Service (BKCN) successfully completed the first part of the fire engine driver training.
The two-week training took place on Bonaire. All nine participants passed. Of those who passed, five are from Bonaire, three from Sint Eustatius and one from Saba.
In October, the participants will continue with the second part of the training: pump operator. This part will first be held on Sint Eustatius and then on Bonaire in November. The pump operator ensures that the fire engine arrives at the right location safely and quickly, and operates the pump and other extinguishing systems during an incident.
After successfully completing both parts, the participants will receive the Fire Engine Driver/Pump Operator diploma from the NIPV (Netherlands Institute for Public Safety).
With these nine motivated drivers, BKCN says it is taking another important step in further strengthening fire services and safety in the Caribbean Netherlands.
Knowledge and skills
During the training, the firefighters develop the knowledge and skills needed to drive and operate fire engines safely and responsibly. In this way, they make an important contribution to BKCN’s operational readiness.
By successfully completing the first part, the participants have taken a big step in their professional preparation as fire engine drivers.
