
ST. EUSTATIUS - A delegation from St. Eustatius is attending the 40th Annual Governor’s Hurricane Conference in West Palm Beach, Florida, from 10 to 15 May. The island is investing in better disaster and crisis preparedness through its participation.
Crisis Manager Andre Bennett is leading the delegation. He is joined by Deputy Island Governor Sharon Hassell, Island Secretary and Crisis Coordinator Malvern Dijkshoorn-Lopes, and members of the Emergency Support Functions (ESF). These ESF teams cover key areas of emergency response, ranging from police, fire and rescue services to public health, communications, public works and logistics.
Training and Knowledge Building
The conference focuses on training, knowledge building and networking in the areas of disaster preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation. Participants also gain access to current disaster response tools, equipment and best practices that can help strengthen the island’s crisis readiness.
The island government emphasises its continued commitment to investing in preparedness and building the capacity needed to protect the people of Statia during times of crisis.
