KRALENDIJK – Sports enthusiasts, take note: the beloved Swim to Klein Bonaire will be organized again this year on Sunday, October 5th. And that’s not all: a few days later, on Wednesday, October 8th, the popular Regattarun is scheduled. Two events that are inextricably linked to the traditional Regatta period.

Last year, over 700 participants took part in the swim from Eden Beach to Klein Bonaire and back. The event went off without a hitch thanks to thorough preparation and strict safety measures.

With 57 competitive swimmers in the race, participants faced strong currents on the return journey that pushed them northward. The organization anticipated this, briefed all boats and kayaks, and received support from Jong Bonaire and various sponsors.

Last Year’s Winners

In the men’s category, Koen Verhoeven defended his title with an improved finishing time of 21 minutes and 12 seconds. In the women’s category, it was Marieke van Bemmel who triumphed with 29 minutes and 22 seconds, her first victory at this event.

Purpose and Organization

Participants paid a registration fee of $20 last year, with part of the proceeds going to Jong Bonaire and their youth activities. The organization announced last year that they aim for a maximum participant limit of around 800 people to continue guaranteeing safety.

The Swim to Klein Bonaire is one of the largest sporting events on the island and traditionally marks the start of the Regatta period.
