PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten – Port St. Maarten has completed a major lighting upgrade of the Simpson Bay Causeway Bridge, modernizing one of the island’s most recognizable landmarks.
The project included the installation of more than 1,350 meters of programmable LED lighting, along with upgrades to the bridge’s electrical and control systems. The new energy-efficient lighting can display different colors and animations for national celebrations, cultural events and awareness campaigns.
Inaugural light show
To mark the completion of the project, Port St. Maarten hosted an inaugural light show on Friday evening, after which the bridge was illuminated in purple in support of Vitiligo Awareness.
